Alternative Medications for Hair loss TreatmentIncreasingly, people are turning to alternative products and natural remedies for hair loss. Most combine various types of treatments and natural medications to cover a full spectrum of possible cures. In men, hair loss is usually genetic, but abnormal hair loss can be a sign of an underlying nutrient deficiency or toxicity. Illnesses that affect the body's nutritional balance, like anemea, thyroid problems and other hormonal imbalances are common, especially in women. In the elderly, where nutritional balance is often poor, thinning hair can indicate a need for vitamins and minerals, particularly calcium and silica. The ingestion of many medications, thyroid pills and diet pills can also be a cause for hair loss and If a person finds excessive thinning of hair during this period of time, talk with your health practitioner for an alternate remedy. It must be mentioned that hair loss can also occur during times of extreme stress on the body such as, childbirth, psychological shock and grief, or a physical debilitating illness. This is why sometimes a conventional approach may not work in all cases and an alternative is required if hair loss is to be stopped or regrowth is the of a concern. We will look at various alternative products, medications and treatments in the treatment of hair loss and thinning. Nutrition A diet rich in silica, calcium and iron will help reduce or prevent hair loss. Green leafy vegetables are a good mineral source. Dried fuits and cherry juice are rich in iron. The B vitamins, especially B5 (pantothenic acid) and B3 (naicin) are especially important for hair regrowth.. Foods to include these B vitamins are peas, carrots, caulifower, nuts and eggs. If hair loss is due to thyroid dysfunction, eat more foods rich in Vitamin A and iodine. Carrots and spinach are excellent choices. Nutritional Supplements A large number of nutrients are responsible for preventing hair loss and forming hair regrowth. We have previously talked about the importance of B vitamins and silica with calcium. Zinc is also an important mineral in this supplemental combination. Effective daily dosages would be: - Vitamin B coomplex 100 mg. - Zinc 30 mg. with 3 mg. copper (zinc and copper need to be in balance) - Silica 1000 mg. Herbal Rememdies Herbal remedies help to increase circulation, disinfect the scalp and stimulate hair growth. - Massage the scalp regularly with tinctures of stinging nettle, birch, horsetail and rosemary for hair growth, to disinfect the scalp and increase blood circulation. - Cleanse the blood by drinking 1 tbsp. of juice comprising of stinging nettle, birch leaves, and watercress, mixed in a glass of water. - To shampoo the hair, steep 2 tbsp. of horsetail in 4 oz. of hot water and add to a baby shampoo. In conclusion, although many people look toward prescription and many non-prescription drugs, (the Minoxidils such as Rogaine for example), alternative medications, remedies and therapies as outlined above, have proven to be a very beneficial, natural means of therapy. It is important to remember that the genetic component and heredity for hair loss is a major contributor, but certain mental and physical stresses may play a significant role for the thinning of hair. Any drug therapies which result in losing hair should be discussed with your doctor. Alternative medications are a viable source for treatment, always discuss this with your health practitioner before starting a a natural regime for preventing or reversing hair loss.
