Hair Loss and Hair Piece ConsiderationsPerhaps the first thing to consider before buying a hair piece when using such to hide hair loss is the emotional aspect of losing your hair. Hair loss is traumatic. Don't let those who aren't experiencing it fool you with their words and off-the-cuff advice. "Just get a wig." "It's only hair." Hair loss can affect our self-esteem and our self-image. Hair is very much a part of society's image of beautiful people. Just take a look at the magazines, TV, movies and all types of advertisements. And of course all those stars and models are young. Our society "worships" youth. A sign of youth is a full head of hair. So as we start to lose our hair, we start to lose ourselves and our youth, regardless of our age. As with any loss in life, you may and should go through any and all of the phases of loss and grieving. These are usually considered to be denial, anger, depression, bargaining and finally acceptance. Although these steps are known for handling loss through death, they exist for any loss great or small. Don't let anyone tell you that it's just hair. It's not. It is also the "you" you have always known. Don't let your initial fear and panic of your hair loss send you scurrying into all manner of unfruitful or unsafe responses. You need to go through these phases of loss and grieving until you can think straight, without fear, and make the best decisions for you. The first step is to simply talk to someone you trust about your hair loss. This may be a spouse, your doctor, or even a friend who is also experiencing hair loss. You may find that friend has worked through his or her emotional responses and has a different outlook on hair loss than you do in your immediate panic and denial. This simple act of discussing the matter with someone else may reduce your driving "need" to just "get hair" so you don't make some possibly irreversibly damaging decisions. You will be able to calmly research all the hair replacement and make a considered decision, not a panicked one. To reduce your anxiety will probably take more than one quick discussion. And for you men, be aware that this could be emotional. Hair loss affects our emotions after all. It follows then that your next step in your hair loss journey and buying a hairpiece will be to determine what options are available for you. You need to find a hair piece provider with experience, compassion and integrity. Ask the potential provider to have some of his past purchasers get in touch with you so you can discuss their experiences with the provider and his products. If at all possible, set up a face to face so you can see how the hairpiece can actually look. You will need to consider if you wish a removable hairpiece or want a permanent one. You need to discuss with your hair piece provider the types of materials that can be used to create your hair piece. These two points along with the actual attachment process, whether skin, adhesive or a surgical method, will help determine the cost of the hair piece system. These are just a few of the considerations you must give thought to when you begin to experience hair loss. Do not shortchange the first step of coming to acceptance of your hair loss. Then when you have and have decided that a hairpiece is the answer for you, give consideration to the preceding steps.
