Eyed Before Hired Employment Background Check
Employment Background Check A Reality Present Day Life:
Ever wonder why your resume must include a contact person from your previous work? Initially you’d reason it out as the employer you are applying for will be calling your previous employer with regards to your performance as an employee. Well, you couldn’t be farther from the right answer. That is it.
But that’s not the only process in doing a background check. In fact, your previous employer isn’t the only person a possible new employee would be contacting regarding your past affairs.
Why do employees conduct background checks? 1. Your resume will serve as your first impression. If at any point there, a lie was fabricated and had been found out, then that would be reason enough for your employee to not trust you.
2. Think of employment background check as beneficial to society. If the job calls for high security such as airports, port entries and truck deliveries, it is better that the background check is meticulous, especially after the 9-11 tragedy. Another example is if the job calls for the possible employee to be around kids, the employer must make sure that he or she has no kidnapping case.
3. Which leads us to our third point. If on some level, the employee’s decisions and actions inflict someone then the employer is responsible. He could have a “negligent hiring” case filed on him.
4. Background reports will surface the applicant’s records. By digging out his Social Security Number, a possible employee’s information will be laid out. Public records from the government such as driving records, credit details and property ownership will all surface. That is why one must always be very careful with his reputation because it could eventually affect his future.
5. Criminal records will also surface if the background check is done. It could either affect the hiring results or it won’t. Employers must be very careful when they are researching on the offence of an employee. They must make sure that the reports they have gathered are accurate. They should also consider the state where the offense was done.
6. If the employee had gone through bankruptcy, this will also surface on his background but it shouldn’t affect the employer’s hiring decision. The fact that his bankruptcy from some point in his past had appeared during the background check, it only means that he filed his financial state.
”Invasion of privacy” might be argued when corporations require employement background check but if it’s any consolation, there are some records that the employer might need your consent for before getting his hands to it.
- scholastic records - military service records - medical history
Have you noticed that when having an interview, the employer never asks about your age? That’s because it’s already indicated on your curriculum vitae.
If you are concerned with what your previous employer would say to your future possible employer about your professional performance, you have nothing to worry if you didn’t do anything that would shame your name or the company. The previous employee would confirm how long you worked there and how much your earned.
For a corporation so large to handle each and every background check of an applicant, they already have another corporation to handle the task. Corporations that hire large numbers of people have another company that handles these investigations for them.
Look at background checking this way. If you were to hire help for your household, wouldn’t you do the same thing?
